Lee’s Summit Subaru Sponsors Dogtober Fest 2018

Lee’s Summit Subaru customers know that we’re big supporters of dog charities in Kansas, and we’re proud to be a sponsor of Dogtober Fest again this year. It promises to be the best Dogtober Fest ever, with a massive range of events, booths, competitions, demonstrations, and fun for your furry friends.

Lee’s Summit Subaru has shown our commitment to families with dogs in Kansas through a number of events such as Dogtober Fest. We’re known for our bi-annual pet adoption extravaganzas in partnership with Midwest Animal ResQ, which recently had its eighth anniversary. Dogtober Fest this year is having an anniversary of its own – its 25th!

Dogtober Fest 2018

Everyone is invited to Dogtober Fest, sponsored by the Jackson County Parks & Rec on Sunday, October 21st from 10 am – 4 pm at the Kemper Outdoor Education Center. Join thousands of other dog lovers on this day as we celebrate our best friends!

Admission is free, but we encourage you to bring dry or canned dog food as a donation. Best of all, Dogtober Fest benefits local animal shelters such as Lee’s Summit Animal Shelter and the Jackson County Regional Animal Shelter, so you will be having a great time AND helping out animals in need!

25th Anniversary

This year is super special, because it’s the 25th Anniversary of Dogtober Fest, and there is a wide range of activities to enjoy. Your dog is going to have so much fun!

As always, there is the Annual Tails for Trails Dog-Walk for Parks, a one-mile walk with your favorite pooch that benefits the Kemper Outdoor Education Center. Enjoy the lovely weather we are sure to have and start your Fest off right!

Competitions

But after you finish the walk, what else is there to do? Well, everyone loves contests and games, right? Dogtober Fest has lots of these to keep everyone, dog and human alike, involved and entertained. Does your dog like to give big, wet kisses to all your visitors? Sign them up for the Best Kisser contest! Think your dog is just the cutest when she eats the treats you give her? Why not enter her in the Best Biscuit Eater contest? And if you’ve been getting that strange feeling that your pooch is starting to resemble you ever so slightly, why not enter both of you into the “Dog/Owner Look-Alike” contest and see if others agree?

But what about if your dog has some real skills that you’ve just been dying to show off to a crowd? There are a variety of different skill events to choose from, including a Biscuit Toss (perfect for that hungry dog), Roll-Over Races (for those silly dogs), and Musical Frisbees (for those dogs that can’t sit still). There are also tests and matches to test that dog you’ve been training for months, including feats of Agility and Obedience.

Dogtober Fest is also proud to announce that throughout the day, AKC Canine Good Citizen certification testing will be available, so if you’ve always wanted verifiable proof of the excellent behavior of your dog, the Fest is the place to get it! And if your dog doesn’t do any crazy tricks, or isn’t particularly obedient, you can still enter them visual events like the Costume contest or the Biggest and Smallest Dog contests. Every dog has a chance at Dogtober Fest!

And games? We have lots of them! If your dog enjoys races, we have a Sack Race that they will love, and if their minds are more on their stomachs, why not enter them into our always-popular Bobbing for Biscuits competition? In addition, we have Musical Discs contests that are sure to entertain and amuse. Moreover, there will also be dock diving competitions if your dog enjoys the water, and dock diving lessons if you have always wanted to see if your dog has what it takes to compete.

Demonstrations

When you and your dog are tuckered out, sit down, relax, and watch some of our amazing guest dogs and the great demonstrations they have in store for you. Have you ever wanted to see how people (and animals) are rescued in dangerous situations? Don’t miss the Search & Rescue dogs as they show you how it’s done.

Dogtober Fest is also proud to host Police and Service dogs, those brave and loyal animals that help people each day. In addition, if you’ve ever wanted to see dogs that are light on their feet, come check out the Dancing Dogs and their exciting demonstration!

Over 100 Booths

Finally, Dogtober Fest will be hosting more than 100 booths from a variety of vendors and organizations from across the area. Adopt-a-Pet will be there, just in case you came without a dog of your own, or you want to bring home a buddy for your dog. Pet suppliers will be there to fulfill all your puppy needs, and if you’re planning a trip in the near future, there will be pet sitters and boarders available to you. And if you’ve always wanted that perfect picture of your pet for the mantle, pet photographers at the Fest can help make that happen!

So come one, come all to the 25th Annual Dogtober Fest! You can find out more about the event on the website or on Facebook. We hope to see you and your awesome dogs there!
