A Look at the All-New 2018 Subaru Crosstrek’s Performance

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is a well-rounded package of automobile engineering with a comfortable interior and safe frame. It also has impressive looks on top of everything else it has to offer.

Subaru has been leading the way in the crossover trend with its reliable and reasonably-priced line of SUV crossovers. The company is celebrating 50 years of business in the U.S. and has been enjoying a sales streak well above all others in its class.

Many of the improvements in the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek for sale in Lee’s Summit are in the ride and handling. Riding in a 2018 Crosstrek is a smooth and quiet experience; you won’t notice any of the loud rumblings that is a given in most off-road capable vehicles, especially SUVs.

Improved Rigidity and Longer Wheelbase

Subaru has earned its reputation for safe vehicles with performance that can satisfy even the most enthusiastic off-road fanatic. The 2018 Crosstrek boasts a 104.9-inch wheelbase that is 1.2 inches larger than the first-generation Crosstrek and this small increase provides a noticeably sturdier ride without compromising on comfort.

Even with the larger wheelbase, the Crosstrek remains nimble and has a far roomier cabin than its predecessor. The Crosstrek offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance, plenty of room to get over most rugged terrain with a 18/29 degree approach/departure angle. It also has torque vectoring as standard, a newly-designed steering rack and a smaller steering wheel.

The Crosstrek also comes with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system and a specially designed off-road calibrated ABS that will put any concern of getting stuck to bed. The Crosstrek stomps all over any terrain and it does it in style with its all-new body. The solid foundation really gives a noticeable sense of sturdiness even on the roughest roads.

High-Performance Direct Injection Offers Superiority over the Competition

The 2018 Crosstrek offers a newly redesigned version of the FB 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine with direct fuel injection and has other upgrades that increase output. You can feel the power of the engine - which has improved from 148 hp to 152 hp - the moment you first give it gas and you know you’re in for a ride.

The 2.0i base and Premium options both come standard with Subaru’s new six-speed manual transmission and the option of a Lineartronic CVT. If you want to go above and beyond the everyday driver, you can opt for the CVT which features an all-new 7-speed manual mode function with steering wheel paddle shift control switches for maximum comfort. The CVT also features the ability to control the transmission with seven pre-set ratios.

Improved Powertrain

The 2018 Subaru Crosstreks come with a 152-horsepower flat-4 that can reach 60 mph in 11-12 seconds. The Crosstrek represents the pinnacle of Subaru engineering but the vastly improved engine isn’t all it has to offer. The cylinder arrangement is the hallmark of Subarus as they are arranged horizontally - a 90-degree difference from the conventional layout of most cars. This gives the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a low center of gravity and the ability to balance out the taller design of the wagon.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes Standard

The recently released all-new Subaru Crosstrek is leading the way in all-wheel drive vehicles. Subaru has again outdone themselves with the all-new 2018 Crosstrek’s performance, stability, safety and comfort upgrades.

The Crosstrek is not only four-wheel drive but has special new technology in the braking system to give it a cleaner braking style. These vectoring systems use brake-based torque technology to give the 2018 Crosstrek for sale in Lee’s Summit the most advanced braking system of any Subaru Crosstrek before it.

The manual transmission that comes as standard is a 6-speed with a 50:50 torque back-to-front locking center differential to prevent slipping. The excellent AWD means there will be additional power sent to any wheelbase that is slipping during acceleration or deceleration. Stability and traction are controlled through the Crosstrek’s Vehicle Dynamics Control which utilizes an onboard rollover sensor. This system allows you to manually power it down rendering the VDC system off. The Crosstrek will keep the ABS and traction control at the ready to ensure that the vehicle can get out of soft or wet land situations, i.e., the beach.

One of the hardest things drivers have reported about driving a vehicle with a CVT is taking off on hills. The Crosstrek designers have found a way to support driver - Incline Start Assist - which is included on all models. The Hill Descent Control feature in X-mode also helps with traction on hills as well as slick incline surfaces.

The 2018 Crosstrek’s CVT is a given, but Subaru are also offering the option of six-speed manual transmission, new for Subaru. This is soon likely to be a feature in other Subaru vehicles as well, such as the Impreza.

The CVT, though, allows the Crosstrek to get to cruising speed with little to no effort. The CVT upgrades have proven instrumental in improving acceleration from a dead stop and expanding cruising range, allowing cruising to be incredible even without the use of a supplemental gearbox.

Better Throttle and Steering Response

The 2018 Crosstrek for sale in Lee’s Summit is built so well that the throttle response is faster than most drivers are accustomed to from a vehicle of this size, causing some people to have to adjust their driving styles! Subaru has even upgraded the steering rack in the 2018 Crosstrek. Now it has a 16:1 ratio compared to the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek’s 13:1 ratio. Subaru has left a nice dead spot in the center helping in highway stability of the vehicle for maximum passenger and driver safety.

For comfort, Subaru has added braces in the front to stabilize the suspension system and allow for a softer suspension feel. 2018 Subaru Crosstrek drivers will find the performance upgrades pair well with the comfort upgrades for the ultimate in driver enjoyment.
