The 2018 Crosstrek offers a newly redesigned version of the FB 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine with direct fuel injection and has other upgrades that increase output. You can feel the power of the engine - which has improved from 148 hp to 152 hp - the moment you first give it gas and you know you’re in for a ride.

The 2.0i base and Premium options both come standard with Subaru’s new six-speed manual transmission and the option of a Lineartronic CVT. If you want to go above and beyond the everyday driver, you can opt for the CVT which features an all-new 7-speed manual mode function with steering wheel paddle shift control switches for maximum comfort. The CVT also features the ability to control the transmission with seven pre-set ratios.

Improved Powertrain

The 2018 Subaru Crosstreks come with a 152-horsepower flat-4 that can reach 60 mph in 11-12 seconds. The Crosstrek represents the pinnacle of Subaru engineering but the vastly improved engine isn’t all it has to offer. The cylinder arrangement is the hallmark of Subarus as they are arranged horizontally - a 90-degree difference from the conventional layout of most cars. The 2018 Crosstrek’s CVT is a given, but Subaru are also offering the option of six-speed manual transmission, new for Subaru. This is soon likely to be a feature in other Subaru vehicles as well, such as the Impreza.

The CVT, though, allows the Crosstrek to get to cruising speed with little to no effort. The CVT upgrades have proven instrumental in improving acceleration from a dead stop and expanding cruising range, allowing cruising to be incredible even without the use of a supplemental gearbox.

Better Throttle and Steering Response
