2017 Subaru Forester for Sale

Introduction

The 2017 Subaru Forester is an all-wheel drive crossover with high ground clearance and the option of a turbocharged engine. It's more capable off-road than other vehicles in its class, yet it has an interior that's refined and classy, sumptuous in comfort levels and bristling with modern style.

The 2017 model has some additional features from the 2016, most notably the increases in safety tech that secure the Forester's place as one of the safest vehicles on Kansas roads today. There are new cameras that watch the blind spots, automatic high beams, and an optional automatic braking system.

The exterior, too, has had some updates, and there's better soundproofing in the interior. Overall, the 2017 Subaru Forester is the best Forester ever, with upgrades throughout.

Models and Trims

There are no less than six trim levels of the 2017 Subaru Forester from which to choose from, should you consider the engine choices separate trims as Subaru do. There are two engine choices, and all Foresters come with all-wheel drive.

The base 2.5i Forester has 17-inch steel wheels, tilting and telescoping steering wheel, rearview camera, integration with smartphones and Bluetooth, and a 6.2-inch touchscreen, among other features.

Step up to the Premium Forester and you'll add a number of exterior changes like a roof spoiler and body-colored mirrors. The touchscreen system is upgraded to 7 inches, there is an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, and the sound system now has six speakers and more USB ports.

The Limited Forester adds all-weather features that are available as an option on the Premium trim. This includes heated front seats and side mirrors. There are more exterior upgrades, like the integrated turn signals in the side mirrors, and the upholstery becomes leather.

The Touring Forester is the top choice, with a Harmon Kardon sound system with eight speakers, keyless entry and ignition, 18-inch alloys, a better instrument cluster, two-zone air conditioning, adaptive headlights, one-touch folding rear seats, and driver memory settings.

Powertrain and Performance

Base models of the Subaru Forester come with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine that outputs 170 horsepower. It can be paired with either a CVT transmission or a 6-speed manual. This engine feels extra powerful because the Forester only weighs 3,300 pounds.

Those looking for the top performance will undoubtedly be more interested in the 2.0XT though. The 2.0-liter flat-4 is direct injected and turbocharged, making up to 250 horsepower. It offers up to 258 lb-ft of torque when you fill it with premium fuel.

The Forester is also notable for its real-world off-road capabilities. 8.7 inches of ground clearance is almost class leading, and the X-Mode you can choose on the all-wheel drive really changes the driving dynamics of the vehicle. It's a blast to take the Forester off-road, and it can even tow up to 1,500 pounds when you need it to.

Exterior

The Forester's style has remained largely unchanged over the years because owners love its wagon-style SUV looks. The main things that the designers have been focusing on are improving access to the cabin and visibility for the driver, and this shines through in the 2017 model.

Some subtle changes have indeed been made to the Forester, though, taking some of the cues from the Impreza. The front grille gets some mesh and the front bumper has been improved. It's one of the smartest looking trucks you'll see driving around Kansas City, Lee's Summit, and Independence, and really stands out in an SUV segment that has otherwise become stagnant.

Interior

The interior of the 2017 Subaru Forester has everything you need without anything you don't need. There's lots of room for passengers, and the touchscreen in the center of the dash is designed beautifully and offers easy access to a world of infotainment.

There are compartments all over for beverages and small electronics. You should notice when you test drive the 2017 Subaru Forester in Kansas that noise from the engine and the road has been all but eliminated thanks to improvements in the soundproofing in this year's model. Even the glass in the doors has been made thicker. A nice feature is the fold-down center armrest in the rear. There's also an option for a sunroof in most trims.

Choosing the 2017 Subaru Forester means you'll always have room for all the cargo you want to take with you even if you have a number of passengers - there's up to 74.7 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat.

The 2017 Subaru Forester  is the best choice for a crossover with all-wheel drive and real off-road capabilities.
