The Importance of Good Tires

The area where your tires actually contact the road is very small, sometimes no bigger than the size of your hand. This makes it all the more important that they have a safe amount of tread life and are in good condition. Properly functioning tires are key for safety, performance and ride quality.

Now that we've discussed why choosing Lee's Summit Subaru is a good idea and what you can expect from us in the way of selection and price, let's talk about the importance of good tires. As we said, the tires of your vehicle are where the rubber meets the road. But the area of contact is often no bigger than the size of your hand, so the tread of the tire is very important. Not only do worn tires affect the quality and performance of the ride, but they also have a big impact on safety. There's no need to take careless risks with a set of worn out tires when our team of expert technicians stands ready and willing to assist you.

The Rubber Meets the Road

One of the most important factors in making sure that your vehicle is roadworthy is a good set of tires. This is, literally, where the rubber meets the road. Here at Lee's Summit Subaru Tire Center, we're experts at getting you ready to ride with the proper set of tires for your vehicle. We sell all the major brands on site and offer options such as summer, snow/winter, all-season, and even performance.

It's recommended that you replace all four tires at the same time when dealing with all-wheel-drive vehicles. You can rely on our certified technicians to mount your new tires properly and help you with any questions or concerns you might have.

So what are the warning signs that something is wrong with one of your tires? How can you avoid a blowout? Pay attention to the way your car is riding. Does is seem as smooth as usual? Does one of your tires constantly have to be aired up? These are signs that you might need to replace a tire.

There's now often a light that appears on your dashboard that will warn you of low tire pressure. It looks a bit like the front of a locomotive with an exclamation mark in the center. If this light comes on and stays on while you're driving, it means that you have low tire pressure in one or more tires. This could be nothing, as tire pressure often drops when the weather changes from hot to cold, but it could also mean that you have a leak.

You can find a video showing you how to check the pressure yourself here on our site. If you notice that the light is flashing on and off, it might mean that there's a problem with the TPMS system. It's a good idea to bring your vehicle in and have it checked out in our Lee's Summit, Missouri service department near Kansas City.

Alignment

We offer a variety of services other than just mounting and balancing, of course. One service that could be of great benefit to the safety-conscious driver and anyone who enjoys a smooth ride is a four-wheel alignment. This process uses lasers to sense the wheel angles of your vehicle. If they are found to be out of alignment, our technicians can take the necessary steps to adjust them. This is just one of the many state-of-the-art services that we are proud to offer our Kansas City customers here in Lee's Summit!

What's a four-wheel alignment?

Simply, a four-wheel alignment uses sophisticated lasers and sensors to determine the wheel angles of your Subaru. If the computer detects that they are out of alignment - according to specifications - our factory trained technicians make the proper adjustments to bring them back into alignment.

Having your car aligned - especially when you have new tires installed - will help promote tire longevity. Poor road conditions and daily driving can cause misalignment over time. If you've felt vibrations or your vehicle pulling to one side, a wheel alignment may correct those concerns.

Ever notice this light before?

TPMS Light

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light

If the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light comes on and stays lit while you drive, it is warning you that low tire pressure has been detected in one or more of your tires (excluding the spare). Tire pressure can drop when the weather changes from hot to cold, but it will also decrease if you have an air leak. You can check the pressure yourself. Watch this video about checking the tire pressure on your Subaru.

Remember, a flashing tire light may mean there is a malfunction with the TPMS system or a damaged sensor. You can bring your Subaru to our service center if you have a concern, and we can take care of that light for you.
